Get Your Glow On - Yes Even in Winter.

Former CLEO beauty director, now freelance beauty writer and media presenter, Rachael Mannell gives us a sneak peak into what it takes to ‘glow’ every day.

I’ve always been fond of the phrase ‘fake it until you make it’, so I thought I’d let anyone interested in to how I do just that (with my makeup).

Here are my top 5 glow-getters

1. Healing prep

I have a 5-step daily skincare regime (which makes up for my lazy nighttime routine). I cleanse, spritz with herbal toner, apply healing serum packed with anti oxidants then finish with moisturiser and SPF.

DMK Beta Gel, $132

2.  Dewy base

I mostly opt for a dewy base as it’s the ultimate tool in dealing with tired looking skin. I take care to blend it well all over my face, taking care around the eyes where skin is more delicate. The lighter texture means you avoid the ‘mask’ heavier foundations create.

Luma Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15, $24.95

3. Foundation perfector

While I love the texture of tinted moisturiser, I tend to get quite red on my chin, between brows and the side of my nose, so a tint is not enough if I want a flawless finish. I usually spot conceal using a liquid foundation on the areas I need to.

Lancôme Miracle Cushion $60

4. Illuminisers and shaders

I’ve always shaded my face (yes even before Kimmy K showed us how it’s done). I think it’s necessary when you use foundation because it tends to flatten the contours. I apply either a liquid or cream illuminiser to the high planes (where the light hits) and blend gently – it’s every beauty editor's little secret and one I hope everyone who reads this tries. It makes all the difference on anyone attempting to look younger.

Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight, $42

5. Final touch

One of the quickest and easiest ways to add luminosity is with a slick of gloss. I am slightly obsessed with nude and pale pink tones. They’re feminine, flattering and make lips appear fuller. They also almost always contain some lip conditioning agent. A win on every level.

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Luminous Lipgloss in Precious Petal, $24.50
